Until 2019 no new toko’s and minimarkets
WILLEMSTAD – As in previous years, no new toko’s (shops) and mini-markets are allowed to be opened on the island for the time being.
Until 1 January in any case, says the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The reason is the limited control capacity of the government to supervise the small shops.
The moratorium was the result of complaints from the community about the quantity and location of the many shops and mini markets, but also about nuisance, the evasion of tax obligations and illegal sale of lotteries.
The new period for the moratorium will apply from January 1, 2018, to January 1, 2019. All requests that have already been submitted to the licensing counter, or which are already being processed, will be processed according to the applicable rules, according to the Ministry of Economic Development.
