Sambil believes in the future of Curaçao and continues to invest
WILLEMSTAD - Sambil Curaçao is the largest shopping center on the island. When construction of this mall was announced, it came with mixed feelings. "Isn't this a little too big for such a small island?" Of course, there were also many in the community who were excited seeing that there aren't much entertainment, especially family oriented, on the island.
Now, after three years since its official opening, Sambil has proven its added value in the community.
According to Mr. Jonathan Cohen, Director of Sambil Curacao, his company believes in the economy of Curaçao and that is why Sambil will continue investing in this shopping experience. The business, now in its third generation is still continuing on this path focusing on expanding the company. The first shopping mall outside of Venezuela was opened in 2012 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The company recently opened its newest concept, Sambil Madrid in Spain, and work is underway for Sambil Puerto Rico. All with the same concept: Sambil is "more than a shopping mall."
This means that Sambil Curaçao is part of a large network. "When people hear of Sambil, they will also get to know the island of Curaçao. We believe in this. We believe that internationally, people will hear more and more about the island and they will come here," said Mr. Jonathan Cohen.
"There are some things that need to change of course. And I am sure it will happen. There is no other way. The government must make some changes for Curaçao to become more attractive for investors. But also when they come here, the process to get a permit should be faster. If they are coming here to invest, they need to be treated well," said Mr. Cohen.
Despite these problems, Sambil will continue to invest. The company is preparing to make soon an announcement. "More projects, more stores and more activities for the people of Curaçao!"
