Franco appointed by the Netherlands as government commissioner of St. Eustatius
THE HAGUE, ORANJESTAD - The Curaçao politician Mike Franco has been appointed as the government commissioner on St. Eustatius. This has been announced by the Dutch Ministry of the Interior. Former mayor of Tubbergen Mervyn Stegers is Franco's deputy. Franco is former chairman of the Curaçao parliament.
The two commissioners were nominated by Undersecretary Raymond Knops (Kingdom Relations) to take over the government of St. Eustatius.
Knops calls it an "exceptional measure". According to him, it is no longer possible because the current government completely neglected the tasks and there is intimidation and lawlessness. St. Eustatius is a special municipality of the Netherlands.
