Dutch military officers arrested
WILLEMSTAD - Three Dutch military officers have been arrested in Curaçao. According to the Public Prosecution, they drove away after an accident and then made a false declaration of the theft of their rental car.
The three men were involved in a traffic accident in Willemstad around 4:30 in the night from Saturday to Sunday. The driver of the car that was hit was slightly injured, while the suspected cause of the accident, the rented car of the three Dutch soldiers, drove off.
The rented car was left behind on a driveway a short time later. The next morning, the driver reported a theft. Further investigation prompted the police to doubt the man's story and to arrest him and his two passengers.
They are suspected of three offenses: causing an accident with injury, leaving the scene of an accident and making a false declaration.
If there is sufficient evidence against the three, they will be returned to the Netherlands quickly and will be prosecuted there. The three men are in Curaçao because of a military exercise.
