Documentary series has to show other side of Curaçao
WILLEMSTAD - Ordinary people in Curaçao who have dreams and also realize these. This is about the five-part documentary series by Curaçao filmmakers Hester Jonkhout, Sharelly Emanuelson and Michel Drenthe.
Together with director Martijn Blekendaal, the makers want to highlight the other side of Curacao instead of the stereotypical image of crime, corruption, tourism and holiday island. "We want to show dreams that can be interesting for everyone in the world and what you are doing to get there," according to promoter Michel Drenthe.
The Dutch producer Paul de Bont came to Drenthe in mid-2016 with the idea to make a film about Curaçao. Drenthe wanted that, but from a different perspective and with Curacao filmmakers, “so that you get to see something different than what one is used to in the Netherlands”, according to Drenthe.
The idea is to air the documentary series at the NTR in June 2019.
