Defense protects what is dear to us
WILLEMSTAD – The Ministry of Defense has published a brochure with facts and figures about the armed forces.
The overview also lists the Defense components that are stationed in the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom. “In the light of the provisions of the Constitution and the other tasks of the armed forces enshrined in law, Defense has the following three main tasks:
“Protection of its own and allied territory, including the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Caribbean.
Promotion of the international legal order and stability.
Support for civilian authorities in law enforcement, emergency response and humanitarian aid, both nationally and internationally,” thus the introductory text.
Under the heading ‘Defense protects what is dear to us’ the following can be read:
“We are Defense. Indispensable in a world full of turmoil. We protect what is dear to the Dutch. We are fighting for a world in which people can live in freedom and security. Because we are convinced that every person deserves it. That is our mission and for that, we go on missions. As long as there is war, unrest, conflict, piracy and terror in the world, the armed forces are desperately needed.”
The overviews show that the Ministry of Defense provided 21 military assistance in the Caribbean in 2016 and the first half of 2017.
