Crisis Venezuela high on agenda Minister Blok
WILLEMSTAD - Minister Stef Blok of Foreign Affairs travels today for a visit to Sint Maarten, Aruba, Curaçao and Colombia where he will mainly talk about the worrisome situation in Venezuela.
Venezuela is in a deep crisis. Because of the problems, many people flee to neighboring countries, such as the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom and Colombia. There are also talks about the consequences of hurricane Irma on Sint Maarten and the reconstruction.
After his visit to Sint Maarten, Aruba and Curaçao, the minister ends his trip on Thursday in Colombia. Here too, the flow of refugees from neighboring Venezuela is high on the agenda. The peace process in Colombia and the Dutch contribution to it are also discussed.
It is the first visit by Blok to the Caribbean parts of the kingdom. As Kingdom Minister, he is responsible for the external relations of all four countries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. During the annual Kingdom Consultation on Foreign Relations, Blok talks with the Prime Minister of Sint Maarten, Aruba and Curaçao about the foreign interests and priorities of the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom.
