City center to become ‘duty free’
WILLEMSTAD - The city center will become a Tax & Duty-free shopping area for a large number of tourist articles. This is according to the Minister of Economic Development, Steven Martina. He has made agreements about this with all those involved.
The parliament still has to approve the proposals. Curaçao wants to profile itself in this way to other countries, especially to improve cruise tourism.
According to the Minister of Finance Kenneth Gijsbertha, the idea is to have the entire island as a Tax & Duty-free shopping area, especially for the cruise tourism. This proposal only counts for certain articles which can be bought in the cruise ships.
