Chinese Consulate General celebrates the 69th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China
WILLEMSTAD - It is becoming a tradition since the inauguration of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China. The celebration of the founding of that great nation now takes place in Curaçao in a formal sphere with guests from several important sectors on the island.
Mr. Zhang spoke about the Chinese success and how more than 700 million people have been lifted out of poverty. Significantly, China has made life better for more than 1.3 billion people around the world.
China now has entered a new era. Its economy has been switching from a stage of high-speed growth to a stage of high-quality growth. In the first half of this year, China’s GDP grew by 6.8%. Energy consumption per unit of GDP reduced by 3.2%. Online sales have accounted for 20% of total retail sales. Mobile payment has become popular in China.
Mr. Zhang also spoke about the relations between China and Curaçao. The celebration was also special because it marks the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the Chinese Consulate General in Willemstad. “We have contacts with people from all walks of life in 6 Dutch Caribbean islands. I want to express my sincere thanks to all the people who have supported the establishment and works of the Consulate General,” said the Consul General.
Prime Minister Rhuggenaath highlighted some of the successes in the relation between the island and China. Rhuggenaath mentioned the recent cultural exchange where China donated books to the public library in Willemstad. Also, the teacher who volunteered to come to the island to teach the Curaçao people the Chinese language.
The One Belt and One Road initiative is also something the Prime Minister highlighted. Curaçao is very much interested in a stronger cooperation with China including in the cultural and commercial areas. The integration of the Chinese community on the island is, therefore, an important aspect of this collaboration
