Amending Constitution is not a priority
WILLEMSTAD - Foreigners who have lived in Curaçao for more than 10 years will not be able to vote in the parliamentary elections for the time being. The proposal of the opposition party MFK of the former Prime Minister, Gerrit Schotte must be better substantiated.
The coalition parties suspect the MFK of a hidden agenda to expand its own power base. For an amendment to the electoral law, the Constitution must first be adjusted with the consent of two-thirds of the parliament.
According to the coalition MPs this is not a priority right now. The real priority is to give Curaçao natives living abroad the possibility to participate in elections.
